Unusual Junction has been a popular stop for visitors since the early 1970s when our dad, Jerry McKenna bought some farmland along Highway 36. We lived in Cleveland, and our family enjoyed spending weekends and holidays at the property. Jerry soon converted one of the barns from the farm into The Unusual Shoppe selling antiques, junk, and locally-made cheeses and trail bologna. In 1976, we acquired a pile of lumber that was once the 1895 Fredericktown, Ohio, Railroad Station which Jerry reconstructed on the property using old photos of the building. The station became the centerpiece of this unique shopping and dining complex which is also flanked by several historic railroad cars. The complex then became known as Unusual Junction.
Unusual Junction is still owned and managed by the McKenna family. Over the years we’ve added on numerous times to the building and expanded our product lines. But it’s definitely still ‘Unusual’ and visitors still love shopping here. It’s where you’ll find a gourmet food lover’s dream as the shelves are filled with one of Ohio’s largest selection of hot sauces and mustards, spices, Amish cheeses, deli meats, trail bologna, and candies, as well as unique gifts and home decor.
The complex is also home to the Lava Rock Grill Diner and Universe Bridal and Prom Superstore, filled with thousands of bridal gowns, prom dresses and special occasion dresses. At Lava Rock Grill, diners not only enjoy a fantastic lunch, but also sit alongside the original Bob Barker Price is Right sign which hangs in the restaurant.
Unusual Junction is located just 7 miles west of I-77 (exit #65) along US Route 36 and 9 miles east of Coshocton and Historic Roscoe Village.
